ABSTRACT

The study investigated students’ soft skills (Communication, Teamwork, Problem Solving and Time Management Skills) and their academic achievement in chemistry in Uvwie Local Government Area in Delta State. The study used 200 students drawn using simple random sampling technique. A researcher developed instrument titled Students’ Soft Skills Assessment and Academic Achievement (SSSAAA) with a reliability coefficient of 0.78 was used for data collection. Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) technique was used to answer and test four research questions and four hypotheses respectively. The findings revealed that communication, problem solving and time management had strong positive relationship with students’ academic achievement while team work moderately correlate with students’ academic achievement, also communication, teamwork, problem solving and time management skills significantly correlate with their academic achievement. Recommendation was made among others that soft skills should be fostered in order to improve students’ academic achievement in chemistry.
