Egyptian universities are among the best in Africa because they offer an all-inclusive educational system and scholarships that are better than many of their counterparts in the Middle East and North Africa.
Hundreds of students troop to Egypt on an annual basis to study a variety of courses offered at its highly rated universities, mainly because they can access quality education and obtain degrees at subsidized rates under any of the available scholarship schemes.
Booklab24 has highlighted 8 of the country’s renowned institutions that offer scholarships to graduate and undergraduate students from Egypt and around the world.
1. Cairo University
Cairo University is Egypt’s premier public university, and its main campus is located in Giza. It was founded in 1908 and is one of the country’s oldest institutions. The office of the Faculty of Medicine awards international scholarships and grants to students outside the country. Kasr Al-Ainy, Cairo University, deals with it.
2. Alexandria University
Alexandria University was established in 1938 as a satellite of Fouad University until it became an independent entity in 1942. It was previously known as Farouk University until its name was changed after the Egyptian Revolution of 1952.
There are Master’s and doctorate degree scholarships available for students from the Nile Basin Countries to study at Alexandria University. The grant includes a tuition fee waiver only for the study duration (a maximum of 3 years for a master’s degree and five years for a doctorate).
3. The American University in Cairo
The American University in Cairo is a private research university in New Cairo. It was founded in 1919 and offers American-style learning programs at undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels as well as a continuing education program. The AUC houses students from about 50 countries.
It designed the Excellence Scholarship, which is awarded to international students based on academic, talent, and community service achievement. The financial aid covers full tuition, housing fees for a double room, and a monthly stipend.
4. Zagazig University
Founded in 1970, Zagazig University is a public institution located in the city of Zagazig, Egypt. It offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees and diplomas to its students. It offers fully funded undergraduate scholarships in any field of study. Zagazig University provides medical insurance for all its international students, covering all treatments its medical care offers.
5. The British University in Egypt
The British University in Egypt is a private university Founded in September 2005 through an intergovernmental agreement. The campus is situated in El Shorouk City, Cairo, Egypt. It provides a British education style and awards degrees validated by its partner UK universities and the Egyptian Supreme Council of Universities.
Undergraduate and postgraduate students can receive financial aid through various partial scholarships based on certain criteria, such as their relevant achievements during the previous year. These scholarships are awarded for the first year only and are reviewed at the beginning of every academic year.
6. Mansoura University
Founded in 1972, Mansoura University is situated in the middle of the Nile Delta. It is one of the most prominent Egyptian universities and has contributed much to Mansoura’s cultural and scientific life and the country in general.
Mansoura University has 15 faculties. In accordance with Egypt’s education policy, the scholarship offers free tuition to students from any African country. The top 10 best-performing students are awarded a 50% reduction of their fees in the subsequent year, irrespective of their nationalities.
7. Kafr El Sheikh University
Kafr El Sheikh University is an Egyptian public university established in 2006. Its campus is situated at Kafr El Sheikh, in the middle of the Nile Delta. The institution’s buildings had previously been a part of Tanta University.
