Wuhan University was founded in 1893 as Ziqiang School. Its name was changed twice, in 1928 and 1949, when it became Wuhan University. Its campus is situated in Wuhan, Hubei, China. In 2020, the Science and Technology Commission of the Ministry of Education selected the university as one of the Top Ten Scientific and Technological Advances in China’s Higher Education Institutions.
The CSC Scholarship at Wuhan University is a fully funded scholarship for international students sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Education. It provides free education for students from around the world to study for their Master’s and PhD degrees in China.
IELTS/TOEFL is not mandatory for the Wuhan University CSC Scholarship, which will cover all the expenses of the selected students. The master’s degree lasts 3 years, while the doctorate lasts 4 years.
Tuition Fees
As an international student at Wuhan University, China, you will pay around 40,000 CNY per year for the first year and subsequent years. You may also pay other fees for accommodation, Visa extension, and insurance. Students undertaking postgraduate studies at Wuhan University are generally expected to pay tuition fees within the range of 33,000–55,000 CNY per year.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the scholarship, you must;
- Be a foreign citizen.
- Be in good health.
- Have a bachelor’s degree if you’re applying for a Master’s program.
- Be under 35 years old.
- Have a master’s degree if you’re applying for a doctorate.
- Masters applicants should be under 40 years old.
- Applicants of Chinese-medium programs should have at least HSK level four certificate (Chinese Proficiency Test)
- Applicants of English-medium programs should provide a score report on an English Language test; TOEFL requires 80, and IELTS requires 5.5 (No IELTS/TOEFL needed if you can take an English Proficiency Certificate from your last attending Institution).

- Transcripts
- Notarized highest diploma (degree certificate)
- Study Plan, within 1000 words, written in Chinese or English.
- Two recommendation letters from either professors or associate professors in Chinese or English.
- A scanned copy of a valid ordinary passport
- Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form, filled in English or Chinese
- A valid HSK certificate is required if applying for the Chinese-medium program. A valid English-level certificate (e.g., TOEFL or IELTS) is also required for the English-medium program.
- Acceptance letter from the professor of Wuhan University (if available).
Scholarship Benefits
Wuhan University CSC Scholarships are fully funded and will provide beneficiaries with full tuition fee coverage, application fee, and free accommodation. Students will also receive comprehensive medical insurance and monthly allowances: Master’s degree—3000 CNY/per month, Doctorate degree—3500 CNY/per month.

- Register and submit your online application using the CSC Online Application System for International Students at https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/.
- The Agency Number of Wuhan University is 10486, and the Type is B.
- Choose Program category—type B, which refers to scholarship programs managed by Chinese universities under the Chinese Government Scholarship-Chinese University Program.
- Complete the form
- Download and print a hard copy of the “Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship.”
- Next, register and submit your online application at the University: Application System for International Students http://admission.whu.edu.cn.
