The University of Notre Dame offers full financial support via its Peace Studies Scholarship to international students who want to pursue doctorate degree programs at the institution.

The interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in International Peace Studies offers the opportunity to combine, in a flexible and innovative way, approaches and methods from across the sciences, social sciences, and humanities to address a range of contemporary issues of peace.
Upon graduation, students are fully trained and equipped for a wide variety of scholarly, teaching, and professional careers, including:
- Interdisciplinary academic positions
- Positions requiring expertise in the peace and conflict subfields of anthropology, history, political science, psychology, sociology, or theology; and
- Scholar-practitioner roles in intergovernmental, governmental, or nongovernmental organizations.
Tuition Fees
The average tuition fee at the University of Notre Dame is around $32,413 per semester and $64,826 for the academic year. This fee is determined by a student’s study load and the discipline of their offered courses. You will also pay $500 as non-resident dissertation tuition for a semester and $1,000 for a year. Another is per credit hour tuition of $3,576.
Eligibility Criteria
You should meet the requirements below to be considered for the Peace Studies Scholarship.
- Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited or international institution.
- Applicants are expected to have related training or research experience in the joint area to which they apply.
- Previous graduate work is not required except for Peace Studies and Theology, for which a master’s degree in theology is required.
- Prospective students interested in a master’s degree in peace studies should explore the Master of Global Affairs in International Peace Studies program.
Scholarship Benefits
Under the Peace Studies Scholarship, recipients will be offered full tuition coverage, a generous stipend (the cost of living in South Bend), and health insurance. For selected candidates, additional funding will also be available for conference travel and research activities.
Application Procedure
As part of the application process for the University Of Notre Dame Peace Studies Scholarship, candidates must;
- Submit the Graduate School Application for Admission online.
- Upload all required materials to the application; no paper materials will be accepted for consideration.
The Graduate School Application for Admission requires the applicant to provide the following materials:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Statement of intent
- Writing sample
- Names and contact information for three recommenders
- Unofficial transcripts from prior institutions or in-progress degrees
- TOEFL or IELTS score for international applicants only.
- Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score – General Test required for all areas except Anthropology and Psychology (Fall 2023 cycle)
You should also complete a form requesting a tuition fee waiver. This is because a limited number of fee waivers are available to select applicants for the Ph.D. Program in Peace Studies.
