The University of Geneva (UNIGE) is a Swiss public higher institution founded in 1559 by French theologian John Calvin as a theological seminary dedicated to teaching, research, and dialogue with society. Its campus is situated in Geneva, Switzerland, and its student body is more than 17,000. The university remained focused on theology until the 17th century when it became a center for enlightenment scholarship.

The University of Geneva Excellence Masters Fellowship/Scholarship was created to provide financial assistance to exceptional and highly motivated students seeking to pursue a Master of Science in any of the Swiss University’s disciplines.

This fully funded scholarship, currently accepting applications from interested and qualified international candidates, awards grants ranging from CHF 10,000 to CHF 15,000 per year, renewable for the standard duration of the selected Master’s program.

Tuition Fees

International students at the University of Geneva, Switzerland, are required to pay tuition fees of CHF 500 per semester (CHF 65 in fixed fees and CHF 435 in administrative fees), payable in a single installment. This is the same fee that Swiss students will be paying.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The fellowship is open to Swiss and international students, with no specific nationality restrictions.
  • Applicants must have an outstanding academic record, demonstrating high achievement in their previous studies.
  • Candidates must have been accepted into a Master of Science program at the University of Geneva within one of the disciplines covered by the Faculty.
  • Candidates must hold a recognized undergraduate degree or equivalent by the time the Master’s program begins.
  • Applicants should demonstrate strong motivation to excel in their chosen field of study and a clear commitment to completing the Master’s program.
  • Depending on the language of instruction, applicants may be required to demonstrate proficiency in English or French (or another relevant language).
  • Applicants may be required to submit letters of recommendation from academic or professional references who can attest to their academic ability and potential for success in the program.
  • The fellowship is only available to students who will complete their Master’s program within the standard duration (e.g., typically 2 years), and it is not available for part-time or extended study options.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with a demonstrated interest in research or innovation in their field of study.
  • Applicants must plan to be full-time students at the University of Geneva and reside in Switzerland for their studies.

Scholarship Benefits

Beneficiaries of the UNIGE Excellence Masters Scholarship will receive a yearly grant of CHF 10,000 to CHF 15,000 to help cover tuition fees and living expenses for your Master’s program.
