1. China Scholarship Council (CSC)
One of the most popular scholarships in China for international students is the CSC Scholarship. The Chinese government awards the China Scholarship Society through the Ministry of Education in partnership with other countries. It can be fully or partially funded, and international students who qualify for this program can attend one of 279 universities in China.
Eligible applicants: Chinese universities can directly select and recommend students with good academic records.
Scholarship Benefits: Living expenses, health insurance, round-trip international airfare, visa application fee.
2. Presidential Scholarships from Zhengzhou University
Zhengzhou University offers Presidential Scholarships for outstanding international graduate students pursuing a master’s or doctorate. The financial aid provided to candidates is $490 per month.
Eligibility: Applicant should not be a Chinese national. However, you should have a high academic background and the ability to become a professional researcher or expert.
Candidates must submit a 2000-word research proposal, an 800-word essay (for master’s programs), and an online application form.
Scholarship Benefits include full tuition fees and a monthly stipend. Within 4-6 weeks of the application deadline, the institution will evaluate all submitted materials and publish the names of scholarship recipients online.
3. Beijing Government Scholarships
The Beijing Government Scholarships, through the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, devoted $49 million to this program. It offers support in three categories, with the highest award being $5,600 per recipient.
Eligibility: Students from all nationalities who are in good health and meet the age requirements for each study level.
Scholarship Benefits:
Undergraduate students receive $2900 per year.
Graduate students receive $4,200 per year.
Postgraduate students receive $5,600 per year.
4. Jiangsu Provincial Government Scholarship
The Jiangsu Provincial Government Scholarship funds qualified international students pursuing a bachelor’s degree. The recipients are entitled to financial aid of $7,000 per year for four years, while students pursuing a master’s degree receive $9,800 per year for two to three years. This scholarship program includes insurance for the applicants.
Eligibility: International students with a valid passport, between 18 and 35 years old, depending on the program, and two letters of recommendation.
Scholarship Benefits: A full tuition fee waiver, accommodation, and living expenses will be provided.
5. Hubei Province Scholarship
Once they meet the requirements, international students can benefit from the Hubei Provincial Government Scholarship. This scholarship provides financial support ranging from $1400 annually for undergraduates to $2800 annually for graduate students.
Eligibility: Applicants must be foreign nationals, between 25 and 50 years old depending on the program. Applicants should also have strong language skills.
Scholarship Benefits:
Undergraduate students will receive $700 per year.
Graduate students will receive $2100 per year.
Postgraduate students will receive $2800 per year.
6. Confucius Institute Scholarships
International students looking to study Chinese language and culture can get financial support through the Confucius Institute Scholarship. The financial aid covers a monthly allowance for personal needs, basic health insurance, tuition fees, and accommodation in the student dormitory.
The monthly support fund is about $350 for BTCSOL students (bachelor) or students taking Chinese language and culture courses, while it is about $420 for MTCSOL (master) students. Recipients can choose to live off-campus, and the Confucius Institute will provide an additional $100 per month to cover housing costs.
Eligibility: A bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required. Applicants must be between 16 and 35 years old and have a minimum score in the HSK and HSKK tests.
Scholarship Benefits: Students receive a monthly stipend of $350-420 plus $100, and housing costs are also covered.
7. Guangxi Government Scholarships for ASEAN Students
Guangxi Government Scholarships are fully funded and awarded to outstanding international students. They have two subcategories and are designed for ASEAN students who wish to pursue bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate degrees at universities in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
These scholarships benefit at least 200 students annually, and the institution or government reserves the right to increase the number each year.
Eligibility: Applicants should be non-Chinese nationals and must meet the age requirements for each level of study.
Scholarship Benefit: The scholarship awards $700 per student for one year of the study program.
8. British Council China Scholarships
British Council China Scholarships presents a unique opportunity for British and Northern Ireland nationals to undertake training and short courses in China. This support programme is open to up to 15 students and offers a variety of English courses at 37 universities across China. Enrollment in the non-degree program of the student’s choice is free.
Eligibility: British nationals with a British passport and Irish passport holders are eligible for this scholarship. Candidates must be over 18 years old and be recent graduates or should already be enrolled in a UK university at the time of application.
Scholarship Benefits: It covers tuition fees for students in the sum of $4,200.
9. Biomedical Scholarships
Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh (ZJE) offers biomedical scholarships to international students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences. The program lasts for four years and is taught in English. The financial aid provided for applicants will cover the cost of health insurance. However, the student will pay the university a tuition fee of $28,000 before receiving the acceptance letter.
Eligibility: An applicant must present a valid passport, a certificate of English proficiency, a high school transcript, a passport photo, and a high school diploma.
Scholarship Benefits: It provides financial aid which fully or partially covers tuition fees. The program also supports candidates with a living allowance of up to $2,380.
Schwarzman Scholars Program is designed for international students pursuing a master’s degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. The program is taught in English and covers business administration, public policy, economics, and international studies.
10. Schwarzman Scholars Program
Eligibility: Candidates must be between 18 and 29 years old, have a bachelor’s degree, be fluent in English, and have a strong academic record.
Scholarship Benefits: Financial aid provides candidates with a $4,000 stipend for personal expenses. It covers tuition, travel to and from Beijing, in-country study tours, educational materials, and health insurance.
