About Scholarship

The UCL Humanitarian Scholarship is offered annually by University College London in the United Kingdom to international applicants from any country outside the UK. This scholarship is designed to support students who are at serious risk or have been displaced due to armed conflict and wish to pursue a full-time Master’s degree at UCL.

The 2026 UCL Humanitarian Scholarship covers full tuition fees and provides a maintenance payment to support accommodation and living costs. The living allowance is approximately £20,000 for the normal course duration. The scholarship is awarded based on financial need and upon the recommendation of the UCL Humanitarian Scholarship panel. IELTS is not required for this scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the 2026 UCL Humanitarian Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be an international student from a country outside the UK
  • Be at serious risk as a direct result of armed conflict, and or
  • Be displaced within their home country or forced to leave their home country within the last three years because of armed conflict and have sought international protection outside of the UK
  • Be eligible to pay the Overseas fee rate
  • Come from a lower income background
  • Not already hold a qualification at the same level, or higher, than the course being applied for
  • Hold an offer of a place on a full-time Master’s programme at UCL by the scholarship panel meeting in early June 2026
  • Note that distance learning and part-time Master’s programmes are not eligible

Scholarship Benefits

The benefits of the 2026 UCL Humanitarian Scholarship include the following:

  • Up to four scholarships are available for the 2026/27 academic year
  • Full tuition fees are covered for the normal duration of the Master’s programme
  • A maintenance payment to cover accommodation and living costs, approximately £20,000
  • An allowance to cover the Immigration Health Surcharge, visa fees, and one return flight
  • The scholarship is tenable for one year only, unless the full-time programme is two years in length
