About Scholarship

Applications are now open for the 2026/27 PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme for eligible Nigerian applicants. The scholarship is administered by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), a Federal Government agency mandated to develop indigenous human capacity and petroleum technology for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

The PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme offers fully funded MSc and PhD opportunities to study at selected institutions in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Malaysia, and Nigeria. The scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, airfare, and living expenses for successful candidates.

The scheme was developed to expose scholars to world-class institutions and a diversified pool of knowledge. It has also been restructured to promote capacity development within Nigeria while continuing to support overseas training aligned with national industry needs.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the PTDF Overseas Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements based on their chosen programme.

MSc Requirements

  • A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) in the first degree, or Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience
  • Completion of the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC)
  • Computer literacy
  • Five O’level credits, including English Language and Mathematics
  • A statement of purpose of not more than 500 words explaining the proposed study, its relevance to the industry, and its expected impact on national development
  • A valid National Identity Number (NIN) with completed NIMC verification

PhD Requirements

  • Completion of the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC)
  • Computer literacy
  • Five O’level credits, including English Language and Mathematics
  • A minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in the first degree and a good postgraduate degree
  • A research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry, not more than five pages, covering topic, introduction, objectives, methodology, and data collection
  • Lecturers must provide a letter from their Vice Chancellor confirming they are not receiving any other scholarship
  • A valid National Identity Number (NIN) with completed NIMC verification

Under the restructured scheme:

  • PhD scholarships for the UK are offered as a Split-Site Programme at the PTDF College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna, in collaboration with Robert Gordon University, University of Strathclyde, and University of Portsmouth
