About Scholarship
The 2026 British Council STEM Scholarship, also known as the British Council Women in STEM Scholarship, is a fully funded postgraduate scholarship designed to support women who wish to study a master’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics at leading UK universities.
This scholarship is open to women from 28 selected countries who hold a bachelor’s degree in a STEM subject and are passionate about advancing their education and careers. The British Council Women in STEM Scholarship covers tuition fees, living stipend, travel costs, and health insurance. Each scholarship is worth a minimum of £40,000, making it one of the most competitive fully funded UK scholarships for women.
For the fifth consecutive year, the British Council is delivering this global Women in STEM Scholarship programme in partnership with UK universities. The programme aims to support women who can demonstrate financial need and who are committed to inspiring future generations of women to pursue careers in STEM fields.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the 2026 British Council Women in STEM Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a woman
- Be able to take up a course of study in the UK for the academic year from September or October 2026 to 2027
- Demonstrate a clear need for financial support
- Hold an undergraduate degree that enables access to one of the pre selected postgraduate courses at a UK university for master’s level study
- Be able to attain the level of English required for postgraduate study at a UK university
- Be active in the field through work experience or demonstrate a proven interest in the chosen subject area
- Be passionate about the course of study and willing to engage as a committed British Council scholarship alumna

- Select an eligible master’s programme and apply for both the academic programme and the scholarship
- Ensure all required documents are submitted according to the instructions provided by the chosen university
- Note that the deadline to apply for the British Council Women in STEM Scholarship is April 30, 2026, while admission deadlines may vary by institution
Participating universities include Cardiff University, Cranfield University, University of Bristol, University of Glasgow, University of Manchester, University of Strathclyde, Queen Mary University of London, University of Nottingham, University of Stirling, Durham University, Anglia Ruskin University, University of Southampton, University of Edinburgh, and several other partner universities.
