Undergraduate’s Students Information Seeking Behaviors in Bauchi State University Library

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to find out the underlining variables responsible for the undergraduates students information seeking behaviours in Bauchi state university library. To the end, the researcher involved 1499 students in Bauchi State University Library who were randomly selected. The instrument used in the study was questionnaire made up 10 questions. The data collected was analyzed using statistical table and percentages for discussions. The study revealed that majority of the students seeks information from library and lecturers because they were happy with the services provided to them. The analysis also revealed that the students search information daily and possess some certain searching skills. The finding of the study indicated that the competency skills of students in the library are somehow low great extent to cater their information needs. The study also revealed that the students often search information daily and spent two hours in the library. The study also found that, the students have problems of searching and retrieving of information resources needed for their research and other academic purposes. Base on the recommendation is that, library should continue to provide the relevant information resources and services for the students and lecturers should continue given necessary support required by students. The library should create more awareness to make the students known on various searching strategies ( both manual & electronic ) so much so that, the students will improve their searching skill levels and came to the library at any time and for different purpose.
