ABSTRACT

The study examined the role of small and medium scale enterprise on employment creation using Mubi metropolis as a case study with the objectives to ascertain the role of small and medium scale enterprise in employment creation in the study area and also to examine the constraint to the contributions of small and medium scale enterprise in the study area. The study used primary data for its empirical analysis
and it was collected through the use of a well-structured questionnaire. The study used simple percentage and the Chi-square technique to analyze the data collected. The results of the study revealed that SMEs have brought about a number of significant changes and low support from the government serves as the major constraint to the achievement of the SMEs in Nigeria. In line with these findings, it is recommended that the government should support the business owners through direct or input subsidies and there is need for increased private sector investments, also, the government should develop new and extended policy agenda for the expansion of the sector to focus on employment generation especially for the rural poor
