This study examined the role of local government administration in economic and social development: a case of some selected local government in Kaduna State. A total of 372 people participated in the study. The study sample of 372 were randomly selected from Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State. A 14-item structured questionnaire was developed by the researcher and was used as the instrument for data collection. Data gathered were analysed using simple table and percentage. The study revealed that local government faced challenges of; lack of fund, inefficient intergovernmental relations, unhealthy politics, corruptions and embezzlement of public fund. The study also found out that local government administration has performed its roles in the rural area. It was concluded that the local government institution, if well managed, it will be an effective and efficient tool of development. The study recommended among others that the federal government should provide fund for the local government to enhance socio-economic development which will consequently improve the income per capital and the standard of living of the rural dwellers.
