ABSTRACT

A Mixed Ligands complex derived from Vanillin and isoniazid using Co(II) metal have been synthesised. The synthesised complex was characterised with the help of spectral techniques such as Infrared spectroscopy and UV-visible spectroscopy and also on physical properties such as melting point, solubility, colour and physical state. Molar conductivity of the complex was also carried out which showed that it was an electrolytes. The synthesised complex was also screened for antioxidant activity. The IR spectra revealed that the metal coordinated through the Schiff base nitrogen and methoxy oxygen of the ligand. Evidence of coordination of the Schiff base to the metal was shown by the appearance of new bands due to ʋ(M-N) and ʋ(M-O) in the metal complex. Base on the electronic spectral transitions, an octahedral structure has been proposed for the complex. The complex showed good antioxidant activity therefore possible use of the complex as antioxidant can be suggested.
