Rural Transportation and Development in Uruan Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State

ABSTRACT

Rural transportation has been the backbone of development in rural areas. This study seeks to examine rural transportation and development in Uruan Local Government Area. The objectives were formulated to aid achieve the aim of the study; the sampling technique used was the stratified sampling technique. Data was gotten from the residents of Uruan Local Government Area through the administration of questionnaires which goes hand-in-hand with the objectives of the study. The data from the field were interpreted and analyzed through the use of tables and charts and the findings is that rural transportation has enabled the easy transportation of farm produce, easy linkage from one market to another thereby enabling sustainable agribusiness. Findings also indicate that rural transport also encourage opening of mini-businesses in the area. The study recommends that the communities in the Local Government Area organize themselves to marketing associations so that the agribusiness product can be marketed to other district as rural transport is better than it was before.
