ABSTRACT
Sesame (sesamum indicum) is one of the earliest human production and consumption crops in the family of pedaliaceae, rape, soybean and peanuts, known as china’s four major oil crops. In this study the, proximate analysis and vitamin content of sesame seed was analysed using standard laboratory methods. Results from proximate analysis showed crude fat (54.1±0.42%), carbohydrate (18.93±2.48%), crude protein (15.32±0.01%) moisture (2±0%), ash (6±0%) and fibre (3.1±1.27%). Vitamin B result showed thiamine (0.139 mg/100g), riboflavin (0.115 mg/100g), niacin (0.622 mg/100g), cobalamin (5.163 mg/100g). This study shows that sesame seed is a good source of vitamin and could be useful as a food supplement. Generally, the results obtained in this study suggest that sesame seed can be a good source of protein, fats, carbohydrateand fiber also that sesame seeds are a nutritionally dense food that offers a range of essential nutrients, including healthy fats, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants. Incorporating sesame seeds intoa balanced diet can contribute to overall health and well-being.
