ABSTRACT

This project “Product Expiry Alert Management System for Small and Medium Scale Enterprise” is aimed at developing an alert system which notifies shop owners and managers of products which are about to expire. Faced with the challenges shop owners encountered with losses, time consumption, and health hazards brought about by expired products, the researcher aimed at developing a product expiration system that manages product expiration in a computerized manner. However, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in Nigeria face the challenge of inadequate inventory management due to a lack of financial resources to purchase, maintain and make use of inventory software from large software vendors, as they are too expensive, and come with requirements for expensive training staff to be able to use this software. It is also in light of these challenges this inventory system was designed for small and medium-scale enterprises. The methodology adopted in this study is the Structure System Analysis and Design Methodology (SSADM) which is a technical approach for analyzing and designing an application or system by applying object-oriented programming as well as visual modelling throughout the software development process. The programming languages used are HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, and MySQL. The reason why web programming languages were used is that it is a platform independent and it is web-based applications. For further studies, I would recommend that subsequent researchers should expand the scope of the research work. Also, researchers should put in mind to face their limitations as challenges and not as problems.
