Influence of Broadcast Media on the Control of Covid-19 in Uyo Urban

ABSTRACT

The aim of the study was to analyze the influence of broadcast media on the control of covid-19 in Uyo urban. To achieve this, the research made use of the survey research method. The data was gathered from the dwellers of Uyo urban through questionnaires structured on the basis of the objectives of the study. The findings of this study was that there were several forms of broadcast media effective amid the covid-19 pandemic in Uyo urban which included the television, radio, newspaper and the digital media. Also the findings of the study was the the broadcast media played a major role in controlling and containing the covid-19 pandemic from further spreading which have helped shaped the livelihood of her audience, and lastly politics and ownership influence coupled with misinformation was seen as the two major factors mitigating the effectiveness of the broadcast media in combating the virus. The research recommends that political interest and ownership influence should be reduced to the barest minimum in crises of this nature which would see broadcast media being effective and efficient in carrying out their duty.
