ABSTRACT
The study was a descriptive survey which investigated the impact of domestic violence on Academic performance of pupils in Eleme Local Government area of Rivers State. The sample of study consisted of 200 pupils randomly selected from four(4) schools in the L.G.A.. The instrument for data collection was a researcher made questionnaire. The result reveals that excess consumption of alcohol, jealously, poverty, aggression, family conflict, early marriage and childlessness in marriage are the causes of domestic violence. It also revealed that domestic violence affect pupils attitude toward learning by making them not to concentrate and participate effectively in class, developing behaviours like aggression, sleeping in class, bulling, depression, it also make them to skip school and poor academic performance of pupil in school. It revealed that the measures for dealing with domestic violence to enhance learning are:- Creating awareness campaign, involving the police and state children’s department making civic education compulsory in schools, providing counselling services, conducting symposiums that will educate people on what domestic violence is. Based on the these findings, recommendations were made which include in service training of teachers, providing counselling services, parents teachers association, moral instruction etc.
