ABSTRACT

This project work examines feminism in Mary Wollstonecraft’s philosophy: an analysis. Feminism is the movement that holds that women should be given equal consideration in the society just like men. The work tends to solve the problem of inequality and oppression suffered by the female gender in the society. The main objectives of the work are to provide moral justification to the struggle for gender equality and to counsel for egalitarian society where both men and women share equal rights. In the practical level, the work creates awareness in every humanistic community where men and women co-exist and contribute to feminist struggle for women emancipation and in the theoretical level, it tends to enrich available literature. The method adopted in this research is the analytic method. This work finds that gender inequality has been an age long problem as the male gender sees themselves superior to their female counterparts thereby oppressing them and seeing them as inferior and weaker sex not worthy of reasoning. In conclusion, the goal of feminism is desirable in other to achieve development and economic growth which women have been prevented from participating equally. To curb these excesses, the male gender must see the female gender as one who is made from his ribs not from his head but from his side to be equal to him.
