ABSTRACT

Indiscriminate disposal of solid waste urban areas has proved to be a problem to nearby residents in most developing cities, Ibadan North Local Government Area, is no exception. Improper solid waste disposal pose major public health threats and environmental effects in urban cities. Therefore, this study examined factors contributing to poor solid waste Management and its implications on the health of residents in Ibadan North Local Government Area to determine the environmental and health impacts of solid waste disposal in the study area. The study adopted a survey method and Questionnaire was used as the instrument for the research work. This instrument was tested for reliability and validity of its content. The study used simple random sampling techniques in selecting the residents in Ibadan North Local Government. A sample of two hundred and forty (240) respondents was selected from residents of Ibadan North Local Government area. Simple percentages and distribution tables were used for data presentation and analysis and existing literature such journals, internet etc are extracted for secondary data. The findings revealed that attitude of residents of Ibadan North Local Government towards waste disposal is unhealthy and this has serious health consequence on residents of Ibadan North Local Government. The study recommends that waste bins should be removed from roadsides and put in right strategic places that are distanced from residential or commercial areas to prevent pollution and environmental hazards and people should be banned from bringing wastes on road media but instead have drums and patronize private contractors.
