Effect of Leadership Character on Rural Development

ABSTRACT

This study seeks to investigate effect of leadership style on rural development. This study examine the means through which effective leadership character affect rural development in Ondo state through Governor Akeredolu’s administration; common problems facing the effectiveness of leadership character on rural development in Ondo state as a whole through Governor Akeredolu’s administration; proffer solutions to the discovered problems so as to improve rural development through the leadership character of Governor Akeredolu’s administration. The study made use of three research questions. Descriptive design of survey design was used in the study. Population for the study is residents of Akoko South West Local Government Area. Sample size is five hundred (500). Research question one revealed that majority of the respondents strongly disagreed that Governor Akeredolu’s administration has effectively performed it statutory functions in Ondo state; Research question two revealed that majority of the respondents strongly disagree that Governor Akeredolu’s administration has empowered the local citizens through skill acquisition programmes using its IGR; Research question three revealed that majority of the respondents strongly disagree that Governor Akeredolu’s administration has performed well in terms of prompt payment of staff salaries and pensions. It was concluded that leadership character is a leader’s method of providing direction, implementing plans, and motivating people.
