ABSTRACT

One of the world’s most consumed plants is Solanum Lycopersicon (tomato), which is considered to nutraceutical due to their antioxidant activity. In this study, we focused on the DNA isolation and phylogenetic analysis of the Solanum Lycopersicon (tomato) chloroplast genome. Chloroplasts are organelles of plant and algal cells where light energy is converted into chemical energy through photosynthesis. In this study, we obtained the complete chloroplast genome (which is a valuable resource for studying the evolutionary relationships and genetic diversity of plant specie) of Solanum Lycopersicon and explored the phylogenetic relationship with other species. The complete chloroplast genome (cpDNA) of Solanum Lycopersicon was isolated from its fresh leaves using Quick DNA Plant/Seed Miniprep Kit (Zymo Research) Chloroplast Isolation Kit using standard protocols and then the chloroplast genes was sequenced to better understand the evolutionary relationships and mutation patterns.
