ABSTRACT

The analysis of electrical signal is very important in electrical electronic engineering, due the need to monitor and control the behavior of electrical signals. The conventional method of electrical signal analysis is using the cathode ray oscilloscope [CRO].Its major disadvantages are that it is expensive, bulky and power consuming.
This suggest the need for cheaper and smarter alternatives, whose performances can supersedes those of conventional CRO’s. This project attempts to proffers solutions to the prevailing challenges of the C.R.O on an easier-to-use interface.
The waveform, frequency and duty cycle analyzer using smart phone is used for electrical signal analysis with smart phones. The device utilizes an ATMEGA328 microcontroller which converts the analog quantity into a digital data to display the waveform, frequency and duty cycle.
This device displays waveform for Audio frequency signal (AF), frequency of oscillating signal (AC and Pulsating DC) and duty cycle of electrical pulse. The different variables to be measured are arranged on an electrical console whose output is linked to a smart phone via the audio port for display of the output through the General user Interface [GUI] of the software ”Smart Scope” installed on the phone.
Keywords; CRO, AC, pulsating DC, Audio frequency signal.
