Cyber Security and Monitoring System for Forensic Experts

ABSTRACT

The increase of computer usage in today’s networked society is creating some complex side effects. Criminals are becoming much more sophisticated in committing crimes and Computers are being encountered in almost every type of criminal activity. The aim of this study is to Design and implement a computer based security and monitoring system for forensic experts and the objective is to realize a system for capturing, collecting, analyzing, preserving and presenting evidence of computer crime in an acceptable manner. Data was collected mainly by use of interview and observation of documents as done in the Forensic Department. Structured Systems Analysis and Design Methodology was used to design the system, which is a cross-platform application that allows the Forensic Department to monitor and track crimes easily. The software was developed using Python, Kivy & KivyMD, and Sqllite3. The adoption of this work will help in monitoring the activities of a computer user and thereby help forensic experts with substantial evidence to prosecute cybercriminals. The researcher recommends that the users of this system should be trained on how to use it and that the operations of the Forensic Department of the Nigerian Police Force should be computerized.
