ABSTRACT
Human Imunodeficiency Virus(HIV) is a blood-borne, sexually and nonsexually transmittable virus. It attacks and destroys the infection fighting cells (CD4 cells) of the immune system. It is widely believed that HIV originated from Kinshasha, in the Democratic Republic of Congo around 1920 when HIV crossed species from chimpanzee to human. There are two main types of HIV; HIV1 and HIV2. There is no cure for HIV, once infected, the body can’t get rid of it. However, there are lifestyle and also medications that can control HIV and prevent complications. These medications are called Antiretroviral Therapy (ART). The recommended first line HIV treatment include an integrase inhibitor and the Nonnucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors (NNRTIs).
