Background of the study

The primary purpose of teaching at any level of education is to bring a fundamental change in the learner (Tebabal and Kahssay 2011). To facilitate the process of knowledge transfer teachers need to apply and appreciate teaching methods that best suit specific objectives and level of the pupils or students.

This study focuses on the investigating the causes and Effects of students low performance in social studies in song local Government area of Adamawa State. Social studies provides coordinated, systematic study drawing upon such disciplines as anthropology, jurisprudence, philosophy, political science, psychology, religion and sociology as well as appreciate contact from the humanities and natural science.

The primary purpose of the integrated discipline of social studies is to help young people developed the ability to make informal and reasoned decision for the public good and citizens of culturally diverse, democratic society in the independent world. The study proffer solution to the causes and effects of such students low performance in social studies as a result of the evidence of low performance in the year 2020 which arose interest of the researcher to dig out the facts in Song Local Government area of Adamawa State.
