ABSTRACT

This study analysed the attitude of teachers towards Covid 19 vaccination exercise among secondary school teachers, in Southern Ijaw Local Government, Bayelsa State. The study was guided by three (3) research questions and two (2) research hypotheses. The study adopted a descriptive survey design and a simple random sampling technique was used to select 200 secondary school teachers, 100 teachers from urban area and 100 from rural area. The instrument used for data collection was a self developed questionnaire titled, “Attitude of Teachers Towards Covid 19 Vaccination Exercise (ATTCV)” which consists of two sections. Section A collected the teachers’ demographic information, while Section B was structured on a 4-point Likert rating scale of Strongly Agree (SA) = 4, Agree (A) = 3, Disagree (D) = 2, and Strongly Disagree (SD) = 1 with 15 items, designed to determine the attitude of teachers towards Covid 19 vaccination. The instruments were validated by face and content validation by two experts in measurements and evaluation, the project supervisor and a lecturer in Health Education. The reliability of the instrument was established using the test-retest method with a coefficient of 0.74 using PPMC. The data obtained was analysed using mean and standard deviation with the criterion mean set at 2.50, while t-test was used to analyse the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance.
The findings of the study reported that Teachers from Urban locations had a significantly better attitude towards the Covid-19 vaccination than teachers from Rural areas. The study determined that neither gender nor location affect the Covid 19 Vaccination Exercise. Based on the findings of this study the study recommend that Enlightenment programs and campaigns should be arranged to educate the public on the importance and nature of the Covid-19 vaccine.
