Northumbria University offers scholarships to deserving students who wish to further their education in the United Kingdom. The 2025-2026 Sanctuary Scholarship is available for postgraduate studies at the British institution.
In line with its commitment to social justice and inclusion, Northumbria launched the Sanctuary Scholarship to welcome and support students facing significant challenges in their home countries. This is a fully funded scheme that covers 100 percent of the tuition fees and offering expenses.
Eligible candidates must be asylum seekers residing in the North East of England. They must also be enrolling in one-year Master’s programs at the University of Northumbria Newcastle City campus and Coach Lane campus.
Northumbria University is described as a modern public university due to the fact that it was established in 1992. Its campus is located in Newcastle upon Tyne in North East England, United Kingdom.
Eligibility Criteria
You’re eligible if you meet the following requirements:
- Be an international student seeking asylum in the UK
- You should have received an offer of admission
- Can provide evidence of immigration status.
- You are to prove English language proficiency.
- Be a resident of either Tyne and Wear, County Durham, Northumberland, Cleveland, or North Cumbria
- You are also eligible if you’re a dependant or spouse of someone seeking asylum.
Selection Process
Candidates are selected based on their application form, supporting documents, and performance at the interview. Those who made the shortlist will be notified through email.
Scholarship Benefits
The scholarship provides candidates with a 100% tuition fee waiver and £3,000 to support their living expenses during the one-year Master’s programs. Payments will be made via BACs, requiring a valid UK bank account.
