Johns Hopkins University supports international students through the Charles R. Westgate Scholarship, which is designed specifically for Engineering degrees. This scholarship is available for bachelor’s program and selection is based on merit.
The Westgate Scholarship provides full tuition to undergraduate students who enroll in any engineering major at the Whiting School of Engineering. Two scholarships are awarded to successful candidates every year.
Kwok-Leung Li, an alumnus and successful entrepreneur, funds the scholarship in honor of Charles R. Westgate, the former professor of Electrical Engineering and former interim dean of the Whiting School of Engineering.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, the applicant must;
- Apply to a bachelor’s program
- Be a foreigner
- Apply as a first-year applicant
- Be majoring in an engineering program
- Have outstanding academic performance and
- Achievements in leadership, science fairs, and evidence of independent research
Selection Process
A scholarship committee will choose among the qualified applicants to benefit from the Westgate Scholarship. This means no separate application is required. Notification of selection will be done at the time of admission.
Scholarship Benefits
If selected for the Charles R. Westgate Scholarship, you will be entitled to full tuition for four years of undergraduate study in engineering. The scholarship is open to renewal annually if you continually meet the enrollment requirements.
