The ETH Zurich Excellence Scholarship is designed for international students to pursue their studies at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. It is a fully funded program that provides aid covering research and living costs during any Master’s degree course.
ETH Zurich, founded in 1854 as the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School, is a research university that focuses on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The university’s alumni include the great Albert Einstein, 22 Nobel laureates, 2 Fields Medalists, and 3 Pritzker Prize winners.
The higher institution, through the Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Program (ESOP), provides support for outstanding students every year. The number of scholarships awarded is contingent upon the availability of funds.
ETH Zurich Excellence Scholarship welcomes applications from both domestic and international students applying for the University’s Master’s degree programs in Switzerland. The Admissions Committees of the respective MA/MSc programs evaluate the applications.
Tuition Fees
If you wish to study at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, consider that the tuition fee is CHF 730 per semester. You will also have to pay a processing fee of CHF 50, or CHF 150 is charged for the application. The tuition fee covers the enrolment in all courses. Students enrolled in a Bachelor’s and a directly following Master’s program are charged only one tuition fee. Students enrolled in more than one study program must pay the tuition fees for each enrolment.
Eligibility Criteria
To partake in the Master’s scholarship, here are the requirements;
- Have an excellent result in the Bachelor’s degree program (top 10% of Bachelor’s degree program = grade A)
- If you are already enrolled in or hold a Master’s degree program at ETH Zurich, you are not eligible for ESOP.
Required Documents
To apply, candidates interested in the ETH Zurich Excellence Scholarship must be ready to submit the following documents and follow the stated instructions;
- You must develop a pre-proposal for your Master’s thesis. You are to use established scientific citation practice.
- Submit two references (preferably professors)
- Plagiarism, negligence, or intentional misinformation will result in exclusion from the admission process or, if discovered later, the admission and any scholarship revocation.
Scholarship Benefits
The Excellence Scholarship provides aid that covers living and study expenses. It is valued at CHF 12,000 per semester, which is CHF 24,000 per academic year. ESOP is awarded for the regular duration of the Master’s program (three or four semesters). This also applies to the tuition fee waiver. Only ETH Bachelor students may start the ESOP with a leave of absence.
Application Procedure
- ESOP applications are done through the online Master application – eApply.
- The applications are evaluated by the Admissions Committees of the respective Master’s programs.
- The final decision for awarding scholarships in the Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme rests with the Rector of ETH Zurich.
- The exact number of annual scholarships depends on the availability of funds.
- Ensure to be reachable via telephone, as specified in your CV, as the selection process might include a phone/VC interview
