DLA Piper is a UK-based law firm established in 2005. It is one of the largest law firms in the world and the largest in the United Kingdom. It was formed after DLA, Piper Rudnick, and Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich merged.
DLA Piper Global Scholarship is a fully funded two-year program that supports talented international students from developing countries to study Law at undergraduate and postgraduate levels abroad.
Every year, the DLA Piper Law Scholarships sponsors up to 50 students, known as Fellows, based throughout Africa, South and West Asia, the South Pacific, and Latin America (currently 14 countries). The aim is to enable these students to reach their potential and contribute to the rule of Law in their communities.
The DLA Piper Law Scholarship covers candidates’ full tuition fee payment, including transport costs, food, accommodation, and visas. It will also provide a laptop. Selected candidates will also receive mentoring, internships, training, and career preparation designed to develop their skills, confidence, and networks.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants are eligible if they;
- Are citizens of the country they are applying from
- Are studying Law and in the last or second to last year of study in their home country
- Have completed a Law degree
- Have been accepted to pursue a Master’s degree in a related field in their home country
- Currently achieving or expected to reach a first-class degree or be in the top 10% of your class.
- Receive a recommendation from their university.
- You must have a good level of spoken and written English to fully participate in the program.
Scholarship Benefits
Outlined below are the benefits you will receive when selected as a 2025 DLA Piper Law Scholar:
- Full university tuition payment for the duration of the Scholarship (two years)
- All costs relating to internships offered during the Scholarship period (including all transport, food, accommodation, visas, etc.)
- Payment for courses and/or events (local, national, or international) that benefit professional development
- Financial support towards relevant study materials (including textbooks, subscriptions, etc.)
- Support towards business attire in preparation for internships

Learning and Development

- Assistance in writing a strong CV, Personal branding, and social media presence advice

- Support to develop clear educational and professional goals
- Weeklong development course covering the scholarship opportunity, soft skills, and the opportunity to meet lawyers and other Fellows
How to Apply
Step 1: Visit the scholarship program’s webpage.
Step 2: Gather and submit the following documents (as an MS Word document or PDF);
- Academic transcript.
- Letter of recommendation from your university (from one of your teachers, Head of Department, or Dean of the Law School).
Step 3: Applicants will send a video not exceeding 2 minutes talking about themselves and why they chose to study Law.
