Countries Offering Scholarships For Students with Disabilities

Many disability scholarships worldwide financially support students with physical, sensory, learning, or mental disabilities. The United States of America, Canada, and New Zealand are some of the best countries with scholarship opportunities for applicants with various forms of disability to study at any level in a secondary or tertiary institution.

US and Canada

Countries Offering Scholarships For Students with Disabilities

AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship on Health and Disability: Recipients must be US citizens enrolled full-time as undergraduate or graduate students at any accredited US university. It is important to note that they should be pursuing a degree related to health and disability.

Microsoft Disability Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to disabled high school seniors from any country who are passionate about technology to study an undergraduate program in a US university or technical college.

Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (AG Bell) College Scholarship Program: A Merit-based scholarship open to students from within and outside the US. It is awarded to full-time students who are deaf or hard of hearing to study for an undergraduate degree at a mainstream college or university.

Hemophilia Federation of America (HFA) Educational Scholarships: There are four categories of scholarships devoted to supporting students with blood disorders.

National Center for Learning Disabilities Anne Ford and Allegra Ford Thomas Scholarships: Financial aid is provided to two high school seniors from the US with documented learning disabilities and/or ADHD who are about to undertake post-secondary education.

Shire Canada ADHD Scholarship Program: Beneficiaries must be legal residents of Alberta, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Ontario, or Québec who have ADHD. They can study at any accredited higher institution in one of the aforementioned provinces.

Google Lime Scholarship Program: This scholarship is for disabled students from any country who want to study computer science or computer engineering at any level at a Canadian or US university.

Scholarships for students with Autism: Autism scholarships are available to US citizens, and the recipients can be recent high school graduates or undergraduates currently enrolled in an Autism School.

United Kingdom

British Council Scholarships: The British Council awards grants to international students with disabilities and special educational needs. It is funded by the UK or other governments, charities, businesses, or the universities, colleges, and schools in the United Kingdom.

Goldsmiths Disabled Students’ Scholarships: These scholarships are meant for UK nationals with disabilities who wish to study for an undergraduate degree at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Oxford-Wadham Graduate Scholarship for Disabled Students: The scholarship is available to physically challenged British citizens, EU and overseas students. It covers the full tuition fee rate and a grant for living costs to study for a master’s degree (full-time or part-time) at Wadham College, University of Oxford.

Snowden Trust Grants: The Snowden Trust provides financial aid to students with physical or sensory disabilities from any country who wish to study at a college or university in the UK.

Flying Scholarships for Disabled People (FSDP): A scholarship program supporting disabled people who wish to learn how to fly. You can apply if you’re a UK resident, over 18, not in full-time education, and allowed to drive by the DVLA.

Disability Rights UK Funding Higher Education for Disabled Students: This scheme provides financial support for disabled students in all undergraduate levels of study. It covers tuition fees, living costs, and disability-related costs.

UCL (University College London) Fees and Funding for Students with Disabilities: The University College London supports International Disabled Students through the UCL Fund.

Australia

Australian Disability and Indigenous Peoples’ Education Fund: This scholarship was created for Australian residents of all ages with disabilities. It provides funding for both formal and informal education.

Young Australia League (YLA) Scholarships: The Young Australia League has two new categories dedicated to supporting the education of eligible young Australian nationals experiencing financial hardship or hardship circumstances like disability.

Australian National University scholarships and bursaries: The Australian National University awards grants to disabled students from Australia who want to undertake undergraduate and graduate programs.

New Zealand

University of Canterbury Disability Scholarships, New Zealand: The University of Canterbury provides scholarships for students with disabilities at three levels: one for doctoral students, one for master’s students, and the Educ8 level.

University of Waikato Disability Scholarships: Financial aid is provided to physically disabled recipients who are prospective or currently enrolled students at the University of Waikato, New Zealand.

University of Auckland June Opie Fellowship: This scholarship is awarded to disabled citizens and permanent residents of Canada, Australia, or New Zealand to study at the postgraduate level at the university.
