Founded in 1850, the University of Sydney is the oldest higher institution in Australia and the entire Oceania area. It is internationally recognized as a leader in teaching, research, student experience, and graduate employability.
The 2024 Cooke & Alfred Godfrey Scholarship financially supports prospective postgraduate students pursuing a Master’s or PhD program at the University of Sydney in Australia. This partially funded scholarship provides a stipend to doctoral students undertaking research in the Faculty of Law for up to three and a half years.
Named after WA Cooke, Jane Cooke, and Alfred Godfrey, the scholarship, which is open for applications, invites interested students from around the world to indicate interest in participating in the program.
Tuition fees
Tuition fees in Australia vary depending on the course of study, university, and duration of study you choose. The average tuition fee for a bachelor’s degree ranges from $9,000 to $50,000, while for a master’s degree, you will pay $9,000 to $54,000.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the University of Sydney Cooke and Alfred Godfrey Scholarship, you must;
Have unconditional admission to study full-time a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Criminology (MCrim) (Research) or Master of Laws (LLM) (Research) at Sydney Law School
- Be motivated to undertake research in the field of law.
- Have completed at least one of the following law degrees:
- An Honours degree (first or second class or higher) or equivalent
- A Master’s degree through research
- A Master’s degree with honors or outstanding coursework with a research element equivalent to 25% of a full-time academic year
- A law degree with research and/or professional experience is equivalent to a first-class honors degree.
Note: Preference is given to first-year students, but exceptionally, scholarships may also be awarded to MCrim by Research or LLM by Research students currently enrolled in a full-time PhD program who can demonstrate timely completion of their dissertation and outstanding research progress.
Scholarship Benefits
The Cooke and Alfred Godfrey Scholarship is partly funded. It awards a stipend of $50,000 for up to three and a half years to postgraduate research students studying in the Faculty of Law at the University of Sydney.
