Central European University, CEU, is a multi-campus higher institution in Hungary. It was established in 1991 and originally had just over 100 students when it began operations, but it now has a student body of almost 2000. The university’s three campuses are located in Prague, Budapest, and Warsaw.
The 2025-2026 CEU Scholarships at this European university are designed for domestic and international students who want to pursue their Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degrees at the best university in Hungary.
Fully Funded Scholarships are available for postgraduate programs (MSc/PhD), while tuition fee waivers are available for undergraduate programs at CEU. International students interested in the Central European University scholarships are welcome to apply, as the benefits are currently available for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Tuition Fees
The academic year for undergraduate programs at CEU is continuous, meaning students have no break between courses. The tuition fees that citizens and foreigners pay to study at Central European University for a master’s program are the same price. For a Bachelor’s program, a domestic student spends $7,549 per year, while international students pay around $7,547 for an academic year. In the case of a Master’s, both domestic and international students’ tuition costs $2,265/year.
Doctorate students pay around $16,177/year for locals and $16,173/year for foreigners. You might also be required to pay for accommodation, transportation, study materials, meals, and personal expenses.
Eligibility Criteria
Financial aid is granted based on academic merit and is available for most of Central European University’s programs.
Eligibility for the Scholarships applies to;
All foreign applicants, regardless of nationality.
- Students admitted to a Bachelor’s program; candidates must have a high school diploma.
- Masters candidates who have/submit a Bachelor’s degree certificate/transcript
- Doctorate/PhD candidates who have a Master’s degree.
- Students who can prove their English language proficiency.
Necessary Documents
These set of documents will have to be submitted to Central European University if you wish to participate in the scholarship program:
- Copy of your past diploma
- Your updated resume
- Letter of recommendation
- Your Research proposal (degree)
- A Statement of Purpose
- Proof of English skills test results
Scholarship Benefits
Apart from the postgraduate students who will be awarded full scholarships, Central European University Scholarships cover various tuition fees, monthly stipends, and health insurance coverage.
Graduates
For graduate students, you will enjoy the following benefits – 100% tuition fee coverage, health insurance, and;
- CEU Master Excellence Scholarship: 1,000 Euros/month
- CEU Master Award Scholarship: 750 Euros/month
- CEU Master Scholarship: 500 Euros/month
- CEU Doctoral Scholarship: 1,350 Euros/month
Undergraduates
In the case of a bachelor’s degree, two Presidential Awards, totaling 5,000 Euros each, will be awarded to outstanding students.
The scholarship covers tuition fees for four years as follows:
- 1st year: 500 euros
- 2nd year: 1,000 euros
- 3rd year: 1,500 euros
- 4th year: 2,000 euros
Application Procedure
- If you’re not a student already, you should apply for admission to CEU.
- Applicants who want to be considered for these scholarships must apply by the appropriate deadline.
- To be considered, indicate your interest in financial aid in the CEU Application Form (‘Funding’ section).
- Applications submitted by February 4, 2025, will be formally reviewed by the admissions office.
- After that, it will either be forwarded to the academic program for academic evaluation or rejected for technical reasons.
- The academic department will assess and evaluate the application based on academic performance.
- Some departments will evaluate submitted applications and conduct additional exams and/or interviews for pre-selected candidates.
- If granted, admission offers (including financial aid) will be posted on the applicant portal.
