The Global Futures Scholarships, sponsored by the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, offer financial aid to international students (from Africa) who want to pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree program at the prestigious university.
The scholarship has a total value of over £4.5 million in grants, and more than 300 candidates will receive the awards for a consecutive three-year period at the University of Manchester.
The University of Manchester, located in the United Kingdom, is a public higher institution established in 2004 by the merger of the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology and the Victoria University of Manchester. Global Futures Scholarships at the University of Manchester are accepting applications from international students for the 2025 academic year.
Tuition Fees
The cost of studies at the University of Manchester for international students varies by program, but on average, the tuition fee for a full-time undergraduate program is £9,250. Postgraduate students pay a fee of £4,786 for a full-time program, while part-time is £2,393. International students are charged annually at the rate for the year they commenced and remained fixed for the duration of their program of study or research.
Eligible Countries
Applications will be considered from international fee-paying students domiciled in the following countries;
- Nigeria
- Kenya
- Ghana
- Egypt
- Botswana
- Tanzania
- Zimbabwe
- South Africa.
Eligibility Criteria
Undergraduate Students
To be eligible for the undergraduate scholarship program;
- Applicants must be self-funded (not sponsored).
- Applicants must have selected The University of Manchester as their FIRM UCAS choice by May 23, 2025.
- The award applies only to full-time courses of study delivered at The University of Manchester’s UK campus in Manchester.
Furthermore, undergraduate applicants must be applying for direct first-year entry in 2025 and have or be working towards one of the following qualifications:
- A-levels
- IB Diploma
- South African NSC or IEB
- NCUK International Foundation Year
Those not eligible are;
- Applicants who applied for or are enrolled in blended and distance learning programs.
- Applicants in the fields of Medicine (MBChB), Dentistry (BDS) and Architecture
- Applicants who have previously studied at a higher education institution in the UK.
Postgraduate Students
To be eligible for the postgraduate scholarship program;
- Applicants must hold an unconditional offer to study a full-time on-campus master’s course at The University of Manchester.
- Applicants must submit an online scholarship application form by the same deadline.
- The application form will be emailed to all eligible offer-holders.
- Applicants for MBA, MPhil, Master of Architecture (MArch), Architecture and Urbanism (MA), Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA), Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), Clinical Medicine and Dentistry degrees are not eligible for the award.
Scholarship Benefits
For Undergraduate
A successful candidate selected for the Global Futures Scholarships to study courses at the undergraduate level will each receive £8,000 per year over three years. The University of Manchester offers over 100 merit-based scholarships valued at £24,000 for three years.
The scholarships will be awarded as a discount on published overseas tuition fees for students from a selection of countries who attain a conditional 60% average each year.
For Postgraduate (Master’s)
A successful candidate selected for the Global Futures Scholarships to study courses at the master’s level will each be awarded £15,000 based on academic excellence and the quality of their responses in the online application form. The University of Manchester is offering more than 230 merit-based scholarships to prospective international students. They will be awarded a discount on published overseas tuition fees.
How To Apply
For Bachelor’s Applicants
- Visit the university’s webpage.
- Apply for admission to an undergraduate or master’s program at the University of Manchester.
- The application form will be emailed automatically to all eligible applicants shortly after an academic offer is made. However, the form will not be emailed until December 2024.
For Master’s Applicants
- Applicants for the African awards must hold an unconditional offer to study a full-time master’s program at the University of Manchester.
- Applicants must submit an online scholarship application form by the deadline.
- Application forms will only be made available to you once you have applied and been made an offer.
