The American Library Association (ALA) Scholarship is available for those seeking a master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLS) in the United States. It is a partially funded program open to all applicants who have applied for admission to a formal program leading to a master’s degree.
The ALA Scholarship, worth $300,000, aims to support students enrolled in accredited library science or school library media programs at the graduate level. Partial funding of up to $8,000 will be awarded to students who gained admission or are studying at universities across the USA. Founded in 1876, the American Library Association (ALA) is among the renowned American organizations dedicated to promoting libraries, librarians, and library workers.
Eligibility Criteria
- Open to students of all nationalities.
- Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited Library and information science master’s level program.
- Applicants interested in school librarianship must attend a program that adheres to the ALA curriculum guidelines for the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
- Must be applying to or enrolled in any either;
- Library Management, or
- Library Science

Benefits of Scholarship
The ALA Scholarships provide recipients with financial support worth between $2,500 and $8,000 annually. Additionally, scholarships are available for students of color, individuals with disabilities, and current library employees who do not hold an MLS degree.
